The first time I looked across from my table at Columbia states EMT course, looking back was a man I soon become to know as Gaige. He was in Alpha group, as was I. I used to be a professional athlete. Gaige was the only person I've meet out side of professional sports as drivin, possessing a more that average physical aptitude and mental focus. His above average drive is what we had in common and how we clicked. Although 10 years younger than me, he was like a tag team partner. We pushed each other in the EMT course and I would not have passed without his help. He helped a retired professional wrestler find his confidence again. May God be with his family and help with this time of pain. I'm truly blessed to have known him.

My heart goes out to everyone who loved Gaige! I was Gaige's professor and advisor at UT. I had many students, but Gaige was very special and I will never forget him, his enthusiasm, his open spirit, and his honesty. Gaige joined us on our study trip to Berlin and I will always fondly remember the many conversations we had as we explored the history of this city. Gaige made an impact on everyone he met! His life was much too short, but during the time he was with us, he mattered. He will continue to matter in our memories and the stories we share about him. I am so very sorry for this loss and I am sending my love to his family and friends in this hard time.

Gaige, simply put, you were the best man I have ever known. You were an unrelenting inspiration to us all - even during the worst of circumstances, such as this one. Your Love, Optimism & Drive, together, created what I always assumed was an unstoppable force of nature. Whether it was learning a new skill, playing a drinking game, or lifting weights, you were always pushing us to reach our LIMITS - a word you mocked so incredibly well and refused to accept as part of your vocabulary - limits none of us would have ever known about had you not burst into our lives and pushed us further.

It pains me immensely to think about how much time I took for granted in our friendship on the misguided assumption that you & I would always be around to grow old & wise together, no matter how far apart our lives took us - a pact we made as boys in elementary school. I will never make that mistake in a friendship ever again.

Despite all the broken limits and impossible achievements you left staggered in the dust, the most admirable legacy you graced our beautiful Earth with was LOVE. Love for your Friends & Family - something you talked ENDLESSLY about and truly put before yourself and everything else. Love for your Passions, which were always changing. Love of Foreign Culture, which broadened your worldview. Love of the Unknown, which challenged your composure and took you out of your comfort zone. Love for Life, which gave you the energy we all still feel today, and the energy I will NEVER let die.

Having accepted the devastatingly rude awakening that you are not invincible, your death is slowly beginning to make more sense to me as the days go by. You lived a fast paced life jam-packed with as many adrenaline rushes and GENUINE shared human experiences as you could. You did more in 25 years than most of us could hope to do in our lifetimes. Like a Supermassive Sun, you lived the brightest, burning life you could, outshining all the other stars in the sky, and like all Supermassive forces of nature, your life ended abruptly, and left a devastating, yet beautiful impact on all of our lives.

Gaige, while you may not be here with us physically, you will always be in our hearts reminding us that what's most important in life are the everyday people around us and the experiences we share doing what we love with those we love.

It's been one hell of a ride since we first became friends in Pre-school, and I can only hope that we meet up again soon later on down the road.

Farewell, friend.

I just found out this evening about Gaige's passing. I am beyond devastated. I taught Gaige in first grade and he was one of my favorite students I have ever taught. I quit teaching in 2010 so I'm always reflecting on all of the students I was lucky to teach. Gaige was by far one of my most favorite kids and his mom Robin one of my favorite moms. Gaige always kept me on my toes in a good way. He was smart, cute, and those blue eyes could charm anyone even his teacher. I loved him to death especially when I could get one of those "Gaige" hugs that were so tight they almost took your breath. Gaige, you were and still are special to me. I am proud of everything you accomplished and comforted that I have a guardian angel on my side from here on out. You were so special to me then and you are now. I will never forget you Gaige Bolden! You are the reason I loved being a teacher and I'll never forget you! I love you sweet boy!

I want you to know that Gaige had an incredible impact on even those who only got to be part of his life for a short time. His positive attitude, his deep thoughtfulness and his drive to always do what is right had a lasting effect on me and many others who he met during his time at UT. Gaige certainly made the world a better place.

December 18, 2016

Gaige I only had the pleasure to meet you once when you came to see your mom one night at the Vanderbilt Emergency Department. I think you were around 18 or 19 years old. She introduced you to me and I was so impressed with your manners, charisma and overall sweet personality (unfortunately, all rare qualities among teenagers in general). The most impressive thing about it was that you didn't have to be that way to me- but you were automatically, naturally, and that spoke volumes to the kind of young man you were.

May you rest in peace, and may we share the same field again one day soon.

Gaige... I know that you know this... But I just want to remind you. Your Mother was my hero as a single mom through all of the years we have known each other. She loved you more and more every year of your life... And she was so proud of you... always. Your mother has always been so strong when it has come to raising you and like I said her love for you and her Devotion to you has always been an inspiration for me. We don't know why things like this happen... and quite frankly I don't think your mother or I want to learn any type of lesson right now. I just want to thank you as a son for letting your mother know how very much you loved her... always... because not all mothers with sons can say that... but Robin has known your entire life how much you loved her and I think that's part of what has made her so proud of you that you have not been afraid to show her how much you loved her and how important she was in your life. So I just wanted to thank you for being the best son a mom could ever ask for and ask you to please watch over her...never let her out of your sight... She's going to need to know you're there. And when she's ready in some way show her that God is there with her As well... always has been ... and always will be ...and that He loves her more than she could ever imagine... And he will take care of her through all of this. Thank you Gaige for being the Son your mom always wanted.

Robin... My dear sweet friend... I would give anything to know what words to say to comfort you but I know they're just are not any right now...other than I am so very sorry. This is still unimaginable for me so I imagine that it is for you as well. I want to give you a hug so badly... And as soon as you're ready please let me know and I will come to your house and if all we do is sit in silence, while I hold your hand and we cry together... that is perfectly alright for me and it would be an honor if you allowed me to share some of that time with you. Whenever you are ready I am here. There are no words to tell you how much I love you and how much I miss you and how much this just doesn't make sense. I'm here whenever you're ready...

Robin, please know Rainy and I are here for you. I never got to meet Gaige, but I know how much you loved him. All of these pictures I've seen of him show a bright, beautiful young man, and he obviously had a wonderful heart. What a wonderful mom you have been. There's no guarantees to the amount of time we spend alive here, as you painfully know, but what a fantastic life he had while he was here. I hope you can have some comfort in that, eventually. I love you, and I'm heartbroken for your loss.

Gaige was a wonderful young man. We got to know him at Northfield Academy which is across from the EMT program he was in. He always offered to help in anyway with our high school students. He always helped open doors as he was running up and down the stairs before school began. He was truly a kind and generous soul who always went above and beyond... May he rest in peace!

Sincerely,
