SANDERS RICHARDSON STEWART, JR.
April 24, 1925 – December 23, 2016
Sanders R. Stewart, 91, passed away peacefully early Friday morning at Madison Manor. Mr. Stewart was preceded in death by his parents, Sanders R. Stewart, Sr. and Lucille Savage Stewart; and his loving wife of 64 years, Jean Kennedy Stewart.
Left to treasure his memory are his two sons, William K. Stewart (Dennis Blizzard) of Madison; and Rick Stewart (Lorraine) of Nairn, Scotland; one granddaughter, Hannah Stewart of Edinburgh, Scotland; a host of nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends.
“SR”, as he was always known, was a WWII veteran and a government employee for his entire working career, initially with the Corps of Engineers in Mobile and afterward with NASA in Huntsville from the early 60’s until he retired in the early 80’s. He worked during his retirement with COLSA in Huntsville. During his retirement SR and Jean loved to travel and were active Square Dancing with their many close friends. He was also a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church and The Elks Club of Huntsville. SR Stewart was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him!
You may visit with the family at Trinity United Methodist Church, 607 Airport Road, SW, Huntsville, AL on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 12 Noon to 1pm. A funeral service conducted by Rev. Mitchell Williams and Rev. Mac Buttram will commence at 1pm in Trinity’s sanctuary. A private family entombment will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens.
