Cynthia Saxon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2016.

Cynthia Saxon, age 76, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2016 surrounded by her family. She was born on August 29, 1940 in Topeka, Kansas. Since her father served in the army, Cynthia grew up in various states including Kansas, Georgia, and California. She especially enjoyed her time in South Dakota attending a one-room schoolhouse. Her family settled in Pacific Grove in 1957 where she graduated from high school. She was a very good writer and was editor of the high school newspaper. Cynthia attended Monterey Peninsula College and Cal Poly (SLO).

Cynthia had three children, whom she adored. She was a wonderful and engaged parent and relished being a grandparent. In 1994, she met Charles Lee, who became her best friend and husband. They shared a love of cats, the aquarium, long talks, and, in recent years, baseball.

Cynthia worked for the Pacific Grove School District for many years. She was a high school and district office secretary until being promoted to her last position as Personnel Director. She retired in 2005. She was also an involved stay-at-home mom for many years, helping with school activities and chaperoning high school trips to Yosemite and many orchestra trips across California.

Cynthia was a passionate member of the Monterey peninsula community. For years she was a volunteer guide at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. She so enjoyed learning and sharing about the ocean habitat. After her retirement she was active with the Gentrain Society, attending classes at MPC and serving on the board of directors, including a term as board president. Cynthia loved the Monterey Symphony and was a member of their board of directors. She was an active volunteer for their outeach efforts to the local schools. She was a volunteer for Youth Music Monterey County and took great joy from hearing the young people's music.

Another passion of Cynthia's was travel. In 2001 she traveled to China with People to People as they observed local schools. In 2007 Cynthia traveled to Norway to meet her son, Aaron, who was conducting geology research. In 2009 she traveled with her daughter, Lauren, to England on a Gentrain theatre trip. Cynthia made numerous trips to see her family. She and her husband, Charles, took many trips throughout California as well.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Charles Lee, of the home; her daughter, Lauren Yoshinobu (Paul Buskirk) of Lawrence, Kansas; her son, Aaron Yoshinobu (Celeste) of Lubbock, Texas; her brother, Keene Saxon (Susan) of Leavenworth, Kansas; six grandchildren: Nick, Sierra, Weston, Maria, Miles, and Galen; and nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Keene and Pauline Saxon, and her son, Kevin Klay Fraser.

Memorial donations can be directed to Monterey Symphony (montereysymphony.org) or to Youth Music Monterey County (youthmusicmonterey.org).
