Shan was big and loud and pretty much "in your face" but that's what was so endearing about him. I met him almost 20 years ago and in a very short time came to feel very close to him. I was privileged to know him and to experience his hospitality, both in his home in Palm Springs, California, and in Carmel as well. I will remember you, always, Shan. Rest in Peace.

Dear John, I just learned of Shan's passing. I'm so deeply sorry. Shan lived a fascinating life and the two of you shared such a great affection, not only for each other but for all the joys you made possible together. You are in my thoughts.

John, I hope that peace and comfort will find you. Although it is difficult to see beyond the sorrow today, I know we haven't really lost Shan because he has left an indelible imprint in our memories. I especially remember his stories which were engaging, humorous, and just terrific! I will miss my fascinating and loving friend.

I knew Shan through my cousin Tom DeSimone. I only used to see Shan from time to time and yet he always knew what was going on in my life had many helpful ideas and was one of the most generous people I have ever met. I always felt happy in his presence, he just has such wonderful energy and he was happy to share it with others. The world has lost one of its lights.

The mere mention of your name always brought a smile to my face. Thank you, Shan, for the many laughs, movies, dinners, stories, anecdotes and life lessons. I am proud to have known you
Rest In Peace, dear friend

A light that burned for fifty years in my life has gone dark. It will be difficult to go forward without the guidance, life-lessons and abounding humor and affection that Shan showed me over the years. To say he'll be missed doesn't do justice to the loss I am experiencing now. I'll miss our daily wake up calls, dear friend.

We have cherished our friendship with Shan over many years, and it is hard to believe someone so dynamic could ever be taken from us. The term "one of a kind" is overused, but in the case of Shan Sayles it truly fits. Bless you Shan for being such a good and caring friend.
