"A flower cannot blossom without sunshine, and a person cannot live without love."
Mary Colleen (Hill) Atkinson, 84, of Charlotte loved gardening and flowers – especially blue hydrangeas and white roses. Mary was a diverse woman who was committed to her family. She liked to cook and bake. She made her own and others clothes. Mary loved all kinds of puzzles including word search and crossword puzzles. She enjoyed learning about new technology. In high school she played basketball and ran track. She loved a good conversation and could often be found on the phone talking to her sisters. Mary played the organ and sang quite well. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents William Dee Hill and Virgie Chloe Ramsey Hill and a brother William Dee Hill, Jr.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband Bobby Atkinson Jr; sons Bobby Atkinson III and wife Linda of Camden, South Carolina and James William Atkinson of Charlotte and sisters Frances Hill Bass of Kannapolis and Linda Hill Cranford and husband Larry of Concord. Mary also leaves behind three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday January 7, 2017 at Carothers Funeral Home Stanley, 412 S. Main Street, Stanley, North Carolina 28164. The family will receive friends one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly.
