Ernest M. Barboza, age 95 of Dartmouth, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Brandon Woods in Dartmouth. He was the husband of the late Albertina (Alfonse) Barboza.
Born in Dartmouth, the son of the late John and Mary (Medeiros) Barboza, he was a lifelong resident of Dartmouth. Mr. Barboza was employed as the Assistant Manager of Perry's Liquor Store for 15 years and later became manager of Tanza and Big D Liquors until his retirement in 1983.
He was the former President and Treasurer of the South End Golden Age Club, enjoyed traveling, spending time at the Dartmouth Senior Center but most of all enjoyed the company of his late wife Albertina.
He is survived by his daughter Joyce A. Travers of Dartmouth; a granddaughter, Robin Cabral and her companion Paul Simmons of New Bedford; a granddaughter in-law Laurie Travers of S. Dartmouth; two great-grandchildren, Bryan Travers and Andrew Travers and his companion Kelly Smaldone; one great great-grandson Oliver Robert Travers; two sisters, Laurie Clark and Agnes Gaspar; a sister in-law Lillian Alfonse and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Barboza was also the grandfather of the late Robert Travers Jr, and brother of the late Hilda Cordeiro, Olive Texeira and Mary Pacheco.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 9AM from the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME OF MEMORIAL TRIBUTE AT DARTMOUTH 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by his Funeral Mass at 10AM in St. Julie Billiart Church 494 Slocum RD., Dartmouth. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 4 to 7PM. Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to Coastline Elderly Services 1646 Purchase St., New Bedford, MA 02740. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
