Philip B. Trenkle, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 10, 2017. He was born on June 20, 1920 to Martin & Maude Trenkle in Farmer City, Illinois where he was raised with his 6 siblings on the family farm.



He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1939 serving as a lead navigator on B-17s during World War II. He flew in the European Theater where he survived being shot down 3 times. After the war he enrolled in the University of Illinois to study Mechanical Engineering and joined the Active Reserves. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel in 1971.



He married Florence (Flo) Zorn on July 19, 1945 in Houston, Texas. As a military family they lived all over the U.S. They moved to Grapevine in 1963, from Houston, before relocating to Pearland, Texas in 1971. They moved back to the DFW area in 2011 to be closer to family.



He was a father of 6, devoted husband for 69 years, and friend to many. He never met a stranger, and his laugh and personality were larger than life. Phil & Flo owned Jack and Jill Daycare and owned and managed rental properties in Pearland, Texas. He loved to travel, and took many trips throughout the world with his wife & family. They were also active members of an R.V. club. He was a devout Catholic and was very active in Saint Helen’s Catholic Church in Pearland for over 40 yrs.



Philip is survived by 5 children: Bernie Trenkle (Joyce); Terry Hanson, (Bill); Steve Trenkle, (Barbara); Joan Scott, (Ross); Mary Morgan, (David) & daughter-in-law, Tami. He is preceded in death by his wife of 69 years and oldest son Paul Trenkle. He is survived by 28 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, his sister Genny and many nieces, nephews and cousins.



Visitation for Phil will be on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017 at Foust Funeral Home @ 523 S. Main in Grapevine, Texas from 6-8 PM with a Rosary at 5:30 pm. The funeral Mass will be held at 10 am. Friday Jan. 20 at St. Francis Assisi Catholic Church, 861 Wildwood St. in Grapevine, Texas. Burial will follow after service at 2:15 pm. at the National Veteran’s Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas.
