Griego, Alfonso R.
77, of Tampa, passed away on Wednesday, January 11th surrounded by family at his home. He was born in Clayton, New Mexico. Alfonso joined the US Air Force and attended college on the GI Bill. Alfonso and his wife lived all over the United States throughout Alfonso’s military career and came to Tampa in 1969. After retiring from the USAF, Alfonso worked for the US Postal Service for 16 years and retired in 2002. Alfonso loved cars, football, laughing, and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his son, Raymond Michael; daughter, Teresa Ann; parents, Paul and Fedalina Griego. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bernice Griego; daughters, Bernadette Hogsett (Chris), and Veronica Griego; grandchildren: Christina Needham (Shane), Michael Webb (Lauren), Leena Griego, Stephen Webb (Sarah), Daniel Hogsett, Jessica Waddle (Beau), and Raylin Griego; great-grandchildren: Mercedes Thompson, Kaileeann Wagner, Timothy Wagner Jr., Isaac Waddle; foster grandchild, Kim Mathews (Casey); foster great-grandchildren, Julia and Cailyn Mathews; and he was one of ten siblings. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 19th from 10-11 at Blount & Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave with a funeral service to follow at 11am followed by interment at Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
