COLUMBIA - James E. Darby, 82, passed away January 14, 2017. Preceded in death by his wife, Nancy H. Darby, James was a graduate of Lower Richland High School and an avid Clemson Fan. He was the son of the late Harry N. Darby and Emily B. Darby of Lower Richland County. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Harry B. Darby; and sister, Elizabeth Ann Darby deLiesseline. Surviving are many nieces and nephews; children of Harry B. Darby and Susan D. Darby which include: Susan D. Sexton, children Darby S. Kelley, Kenneth S. Sexton, Kevin R. Sexton; a niece, Emily D. Simpson (Alen), Frances Clary, Anne D. Tharp; children, John P. Tharp, James D. Tharp; a niece, Theodora D. Allen; children, Ben Allen, Steven Allen. Also surviving are his nephews, Lt. Col. (ret.) Harry B. Darby (Angela), children: Kristen Darby, Morgan Darby, Griffin Darby; another nephew, James A. H. Darby (Dawn), children, Cooper Darby and Laura Darby. Children of his deceased sister, Elizabeth D. deLiesseline; Margaret D. Fairbanks (Payton); children, Scott and Ben Fairbanks, all of Greensboro, North Carolina and Susan D. Finch, children; Jake and Will Finch of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.
Private services will be held. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.
