Brian P. Boissonneau, age 53, of New Bedford, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at home.

Born in New Bedford, the son of Roger and Marian A. (Azevedo) Boissonneau, he was a lifelong resident of the city.

Brian was a student at Nazareth Hall in Fall River until the age of 22, then became a client of The Handicapped Center in New Bedford and most recently was a client at Community Connections in Fairhaven.

An exceptional person with a kind and gentle soul, Brian first and foremost loved his family, especially his loving nieces. He was very involved with Special Olympics, participating in bowling, basketball, softball and volleyball. He loved sports and all New England sports teams. Brian loved music, dancing and enjoyed karaoke. He was a communicant of St. Julie Billiart Parish.

Surviving in addition to his parents are his siblings, Kevin Boissonneau and wife Arlene, Rachel Machado and husband JJ and Amy Calvao and husband Ken; and his nieces, Peyton and Makenna Calvao all of New Bedford. He is also survived by godparents, Leo and Paulette Gadoury; two aunts, Rita St. Pierre and Julia Boissonneau; and several cousins.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 8:00-9:30 am in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Julie Billiart Parish, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian's memory may be made to Special Olympics of Greater New Bedford, 512 Forest St., Marlborough, MA 01752 or Community Connections, Inc.,10 David Drown Blvd., Fairhaven, MA 02719.
