Earnest Robert Carter
VINTON - Mr. Earnest Robert Carter, age 82, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, January 20, 2017 surrounded by his family.
"Earnie" as he was known was born on March 20, 1934 in Joplin Missouri, and has resided in Vinton since September 2016, moving from California to be with the family he held so dear. Earnest lived out his dreams of becoming a police offer and dedicatedly serving the city of Long Beach, California for over 40 years. He was known to be "by the book" and was always firm in his beliefs. An excellent marksman having received numerous awards and commendations. Earnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, his family history, and writing stories. He was very close to his own father, Sam. A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. A true friend who will be missed greatly.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his wife Kathi Carter; his daughter, Megan Carter Jerman and husband, Jeffrey; and two grandchildren, Jaye Megan Jerman and Jack Maverick Jerman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Earnest and Laura Carter.
Graveside services were held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at Big Woods Cemetery in Edgerly. Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.hixsonfuneralhomes.com
