Rowena Bedford Houston was born on September 12, 1925 in the small town of Stanton, Tennessee, some 35 miles north of Memphis. Within a Family of seven she was the middle child of 5 children. Her love for Art was encouraged by her Mother, Maternal Grandmother, and Aunts, who were also artists. When she decided to go to college in her 40's, she went from Hinds Junior College to Delta State University, where she studied Art Education, and Sculpture. Her Senior Show at DSU had works of carved stone, carved wood, and cast metal. Upon graduation, she was privileged to teach Arts and Crafts to many grade school children at Humpheys Academy in Belzoni, Mississippi. Family have met her former students, who had utmost praise of Rowena for engaging and inspiring their creativity to have FUN.
Mrs. Houston is survived by her two sons, Warner Houston of Texas, and Keith Houston, with his Wife, Pamela Houston of Acworth, Georgia. Her surviving sister, Dorothy Cranfill, lives in Virginia. She is also survived by grandchildren James, Alex, and Rebeca, as well as many nephews, nieces, and cousins across the U.S.
After a Celebration of Life service in Kennesaw, Georgia, Mrs. Houston's Family will bring her to be interred in the Family plot of her hometown of Stanton, Tennessee.

Condolences to the family. Rowena and I connected many years ago as a result of our interest in genealogy on the Holland side. RIP Rowena. Sorry we never got a chance to actually meet. Katie Haisan, Las Vegas NV

Fortunately, I got to meet Rowena at church. Keith would lovingly escort her in and I could not take my eyes off her smile. I just sat and listened to Keith tell me an hour of stories about his mom's faith in Jesus. I bet he has hours more of those stories!. I'm sad Warner, Keith and Pam, for your loss but encouraged by Rowena's faith in God. A prayer of compassion for you all during this time.
