William DiGiulio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2017.

William "Bill" D. DiGiulio, 83, a resident of Keene, NH passed away at the Cheshire Medical Center Keene, on Monday, January 23, 2017, following a period of declining health.

He was born April 23, 1933 in Keene, NH the son of John and Annina (Dintino) DiGiulio. He was a 1952 graduate of Keene High School. After graduating he went on to proudly serve our Nation as a member of the United States Army. He also earned a Bachelor's Degree from Keene Teacher's College in 1959. On June 29, 1963 he married the love of his life: Elizabeth Mayotte.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #4, in Keene, the Knights of Columbus and also the William Marconi Italian Club, in Keene.

For many years he served as a teacher and Coach at Keene Middle School, where he was able to encourage his students to participate in Gym Class, even those who were not too fond of sports. He was not only a great coach but also a compassionate person who cared deeply about those in his community. Outside of school and coaching he also did announcing for football games and a referee. During the summer he would work with the Parks and Recreation Department to manage the pool at Wheelock Park. He did his very best to stay as active as possible: playing golf in the warmer months and going ice fishing when it got cold. Above all, he was a loving husband and a devoted father, and enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife: Elizabeth "Betty" DiGiulio of Keene, his daughter: Beth M. DiGiulio of Harwich, MA, his son: William "Billy" F. DiGiulio and his wife Shannon of Bowdoin, ME, two sisters: Albina King and Ann Eastman and her husband Francis, his brother-in-law: George R. Mayotte and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. He is predeceased by brothers: Francis DiGiulio and Rev. Anthony DiGiulio and his brother-in-law: Warren King.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent dePaul Society c/o Parish of the Holy Spirit, 161 Main Street, Keene, NH. 03431.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at St. Margaret Mary Church, 33 Arch Street, Keene, NH. 03431 at 11am. Burial will take place in the Spring. As was Bill's wish, there will be no public calling hours.

So sorry to hear of " Bill's passing. But also relieved that He will not have to linger any longer in a negative nature. I am a neighbor down the street, and would delight at seeing " Bill " puttering around the house and He always had a great
smile whenever he greeted me. Weather he was waking his pet down Pitcher St.
Or just walking around his driveway . Rest in Peace my dear friend, until we
see each other in a better place.

To my dearest great Uncle Bill,
I finally have grasped the fact that you are no longer with us. This world is without a doubt an emptier place. I know that you have brought your sense of humor, love, kindness, caring, compassion, and dedication to all those in heaven.
When you passed I couldn't speak. How could this man that I had just interviewed two months ago for my college education class paper be gone? I'm so glad that I had this opportunity with you as my last memory of you. Your dedication, love, warm heart, passion, sense of humor, and dedication are all things that you brought into teaching. When I interviewed you I saw and learned about all of these qualities that you brought into the classroom. If I become half the educator someday that you were, I know that I will have accomplished something! Thank you for inspiring me to become a personable educator!
One of the things that you taught me that I will never forget is respect. There was never a time that I wasn't with you that you weren't respectful and caring of those around you.
Most importantly, I can't thank you enough for all that you did for Andrew and I. You were so supportive to us in everything that we endeavored. I will miss your phone calls congratulating us on our races, accomplishments in school, and how you always never let an article about us in the paper go unnoticed. Whatever the occasion, you supported us and congratulated us in every aspect of our lives.
Some of my favorite memories of our time together were when you came to my races in middle school and high school to cheer me on. The visits that we had before and after I raced are memories that I will always cherish. These moments are also special to me because it was these moments that taught me to be fierce, unafraid, and a competitor. Whenever you were there watching me, I knew I couldn't let you down. You had a passion for sports, and were so happy and impressed with my ability. The meets that you came and watched me were TRULY a gift; you taught me self-confidence, determination, that it was okay to be fierce, and MOST IMPORTANTLY how important it is to support another in every aspect of their life.
And then there are those memories of the stories you used to tell me when we were together, how I cherish those stories!
Most importantly, I will miss your kindness towards me and how personable you were.
It's going to make my heart feel empty when you will no longer be at Andrew's high school races, and the home meets are going to be so different without you! I'll also miss running into you at church (which always used to make me smile), our family Christmas visit, and just your overall amazing presence!
I'm sorry that I couldn't see you in person one last time before you passed, but I want you to know that I am going to make you proud. I will continue to be the diligent, hardworking student that you always thought highly of. I will continue running and keeping you impressed up there in heaven (as running was the ONE sport you didn't coach)! But most importantly, I am going to change the world just like you did through the kindness that you taught me and by following your path into education!
Uncle Bill, it is going to take me awhile to get used to you not being here, but you were the truest example of a person of faith and virtue. You were one in a million, and I know that you will continue to have many reasons to smile and be happy for me. I'm never going to let you down!
Give Uncle Frankie, Uncle Tony, Uncle Warren, Nona, and Tutto a BIG hug for me in heaven!
Uncle Bill, words can't express how much I miss you!
William D. DiGiulio~4/23/1933-1/23/2017. Rest in peace!

I am very sorry to hear of Mr. DiGiulio's passing. While I never played for him, he was the scorekeeper during our memorable run to the '92 finals. I now provide bagpipe services here in the Philly area and as fate would have it, I will be in Keene for the KHS Basketball Alumni night on 2/3. If the family would like a bagpipe tribute from a former Blackbird on Sat at the service, I would be honored to donate my time. 610.637.4476. -Jim McGilvery KHS '92
