Uncle Steve and Aunt Mary had me as their house guest years ago. Aunt Mary showed me the whole area including the Naval Academy. It was a great day. The next day I was the worst crew member ever to race with Uncle Steve. Black soled shoes and terrible at taking directions but we did manage to finish a distant dead last. A memory I will never forget. Honestly a great trip. My thoughts are with you Aunt Mary and your family. Uncle Steve was one of a kind and I will not forget the kindness you guys always showed me.

My experience with Steve goes back 40 years. I was a post anesthesia nurse at Annapolis General Hospital so I was intimately aware of his great skill as a surgeon. His wonderful personality and friendship will be dearly missed. It was a pleasure to have him as a colleague, neighbor and friend. Ron and I wish only the best to Mary and all of her kids and grandkids. Love to you all.

Such great memories of visiting Uncle Steve in MD years ago! He managed to get our "motley crew" on board his boat and get it under sail in spite of our help. Wish I could have visited more often, but always enjoyed his visits to SD too. God speed Uncle Steve!

Back in 1976 Dr Hiltabidle performed substantial surgery that corrected a painful ailment. The results were absolutely the best I could have hoped. He was a fine surgeon and gentleman. He always reminded me of Charleton Heston with his confident demeanor.

Dear Steve, I had the distinct privilege of learning to be a Surgical nurse at AAMC. My great accomplishment was to be selected to supervise the Operating Room when you were Chief. I learned so much under your careful direction.
Your surgical skills were legendary. I missed your guidance when you "retired."
You might be surprised that so many years have gone by but you are still a Legendary Surgeon. I will never forget you! Sue Patton

My Mom, who was his patient many years ago (1965-1966), would often wonder where Dr. Hiltabidle was. I was just a baby when he was her surgeon but she always remembered that the nurses in his office would look after me when she went for her appointments. She was saddened to learn of his passing and she sends her thoughts & prayers to his family.

Here is a memory. Steve was at the helm of Donald Tate's Cayanne when they won their class in the Annapolis Bermuda race in 1974. As winners we were invited to the Governor's mansion for cocktails. On the way there right in front of us, Steve and Mary skidded on something in the road. They fell over. The popped right back up, laughing, and continued on their way. Many great racing memories. Best wishes to the family as you continue on and blessings to Steve as he continues on in everyone's heart.

I was coaching lacrosse at AACC, with Steven on the team during the early 80's, when my wife Diane called our team in New York and said, "we have rushed our 9 year old daughter Lisa to AAGHospital and Dr.Hiltabidle has diagnosed her condition as a ruptured appendix." Dr. Hiltabidle administered antibotics that night and operated on Lisa the next day and saved her life. 10 days later and still in the hospital the lab tech said " there is still a "mass of something at the site." Dr. Hitabidle entered her room later that day and said," no fever and she is eating and walking with no pain...go home, she will be fine." He was 100% right. Our Lisa became Lt. Lisa Buser Pastrana Brabazon, has 4 children at Saint Mary's Elementary School and a Navy Husband that works at the Pentagon. Words can not express the gratitude we have for the Hiltabidle Family. Respectfully, Coach Alan Pastrana

Our deepest sympathy and prayers for Steve and his family. What an incredible man - professionly and socially. Two remembrances - when Jim had surgery, he and Steve talked about AYC during his prep. Jim loved it! Made him think of something else. Another is how much fun we had skiing with him and Mary. He was an incredible skier - effortless and amazing. We will miss him.
