Steven Young Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2017.

Steven "Steve" C. Young of Wonder Lake passed away at Good Shephard Hospital from injuries sustained in a single vehicle accident on February 2, 2017 at the age of 62.
Steve was born on April 15, 1954 in Missouri, son of the late Edith and LeRoy Young. He was a graduate of Palatine High School and a longtime resident of the McHenry and Lake county areas; having been resident of Crystal Lake and Wauconda but recently moved to Wonder Lake.
He enjoyed working on cars and spent most of his career as an auto mechanic and auto service writer. He was the type of person that was always working and helping others, even if it meant giving the shirt off his back. He had a very kind heart and quick wit about himself. He will be dearly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Robert) Schultz; son, Paul (Nicole) Young; granddaughter, Emily Ava; and grandson, Jackson Adam. He is also survived by his siblings, Kate (Dave), Pat (Diane), and Mike and several other loving relatives.
His parents and his sisters, Judy, Laurel and Tracy, preceded him in death.
Memorial visitation 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Querhammer and Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave., in Crystal Lake. Online condolences may be submitted at querhammandflagg.com

Still in shock. Steve was a good friend, the very best with autos, and loyal. He lived up the street from us for many years and I followed him since. I even changed the license plate bolts on my car last summer because rusty ones were one of his pet peeves. Hugs to the family.

Steve and I went to Immanuel Lutheran School in Palatine from K-8 and then at PHS. He was always kind and respectful. I remember him as a quiet soul. He did try to scare me with an earthworm in 3rd grade. Didn't work. He played fair on the playground and was a team player. So sorry for your loss. I have old classroom group photos with your dad in them and our Confirmation Picture.

To the Young family, I am so saddened by your huge loss. Over the past 15 years, Steve became a good, loyal and dear friend to my Dad and me. We certainly considered him family to us. He always went above and beyond by helping me with my cars and lending a hand in anything else needing fixing. He was a selfless, kind and decent person who deeply loved his family, as he spoke of his daughter and son often. He will certainly be missed. The best of the best, he was. Rest in peace, Steve.
