COLUMBIA - H. Vernon Benson, 73, died Tuesday, February 7, 2017. The family will receive friends at the residence from 3 until 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2017. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
He was a son of the late Pearlie and Gussie Richardson Benson, becoming a successful HVAC businessman, both independently and with his business partner forming Benson & Oswald Heating and Air. Vernon was a self-made man, who had a true gift and skill with all things mechanical. He enjoyed working in his garage restoring classic cars, fishing and playing guitar. Vernon enjoyed grilling with his family and making his wife Barbara very happy. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Barbara Smith Benson; son, Randy Benson (Christine); daughter, Amanda Bremseth (Joshua), all of Columbia; grandchildren, Crystal, Burt, Ra-Ann, Savannah, Morgan, Grace; five great-grandchildren, three sisters, and three brothers. He was predeceased by a daughter, Pamela Norris Lucero and a sister, Christine Head.
