Barbara Ouellette Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 12, 2017.

Barbara A. Ouellette, 67, a lifelong resident of Keene, passed away February 11, 2017 at Cheshire Medical Center with her husband and two sons at her side, after a three year battle with Melanoma.

She was born in Keene, NH, April 22, 1949, the daughter of Norman and Lorette (Dumas) Piper. Barbara attended St. Josephs Elementary School and was a 1967 graduate of Keene High School.

She began her employment with the Registrars Office at Keene State College the day after she graduated High School. She would leave Keene State to start a family in 1975, and was a stay at home mom until her children started at Jonathan Daniels Elementary School, where she would become the crossing guard and later, an office aide in that school. She returned to the Keene State College Registrars Office in 1990, where she would work until her retirement in 2012.

Barbara was a member of the Parish of the Holy Spirit and attended St. Bernard's Church. She was a member of The Society for the Protection of NH Forests, the Monadnock chapter of The Nature Conservancy and the Bereavement Committee of The Parish of the Holy Spirit.

Barbara enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as helping others whenever she could. She found enjoyment in arts and crafts, stamping, knitting, and was an avid reader. She also enjoyed kayaking wilderness ponds, especially in the Pittsburg, NH area where she displayed an uncanny ability to spot moose and other wildlife before anyone else. She enjoyed hiking in the local area, where she would look for old and unusual things and climbing in the White Mountains. Barbara always looked forward to the annual Kappa Delta Phi, Gamma Chapter reunion.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ronald Ouellette of Keene, her two sons, Michael Ouellette of Keene and Timothy Ouellette, his wife Sharon and son Alex Pierre, of Baltimore MD, her Brother-in Law Michael Guertner of Grand Lake Colorado, and her nephew Shawn Guertner of Aurora, CO. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Yevette Guertner and her niece Tracey Guertner.

A prayer service will be held at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court St. Keene on Friday, February 17th at 11:00a.m. Spring burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Keene. Family and friends are invited to call at the Foley Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Nature Conservancy - Monadnock Chapter, P.O. Box 337, Keene NH. 03431-0337 or to the National Batten Disease Foundation, PO Box 50221, Austin, TX 78763
