Douglas Robert Ickes, age 72, of Acworth, died Sunday, February 12, 2017. Memorial service will be held 2pm Friday, February 24, 2017 at Acworth United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 1pm at the Church. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made in memory of Mr. Ickes to the Grace House of Brunswick at P.O. Box 2121 Brunswick, GA 31521 or gracehousebrunswick.org.
Born in St. Joseph, MI, to Robert & Eileen Ickes, Douglas was a graduate of St. Joseph High School and attended Lake Michigan College. Douglas was a veteran of the Army National Guard. His working career as a Field Service Engineer was spent with Clark Equipment in Benton Harbor, MI. He was transferred to Vancouver, WA in 1977 and worked eight years in the western territory. In 1985, Douglas was transferred to Kansas City, MO; he was in the Midwest territory for eight years as well. 1993 took him to Georgia with the Kawasaki Construction Equipment Company and he had resided in Acworth since that time. Mr. Ickes had many things he enjoyed in life such as oldies music, old cars, woodworking, yardwork, and the beach at St. Joseph and Lake Michigan. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Douglas is survived by his loving family which include his wife – Peggy Ickes of Acworth; sons – Jeffrey B. Ickes of Kennesaw and Scott D. Ickes of Acworth; daughter – Lisa C. Ickes of Midway, GA. He is also survived by two grandchildren – Victoria and Logan.
