Yvonne Christine Tsiknas (1953-2017)
Yvonne Christine Tsiknas passed away on February 15, 2017following a long battle with uterine cancer. She is survived by her parents, John and Anna Tsiknas of Rancho Bernardo, her brother Greg Tsiknas of Ramona and her beloved dog and constant companion, Stella. Yvonne also leaves behind many close friends and wonderful customers who will miss her dearly.
Yvonne was born January 28, 1953 in Newport, Rhode Island but moved to San Diego before she was 6 months old. She then lived her entire life in San Diego County. Following high school, Yvonne worked for several years for Safeway and later Keil's supermarkets. In 2001, she purchased a coffee cart at Kaiser Permanente on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard that she operated until illness forced her to sell it in early 2016. Obsessive by nature, Yvonne prided herself on the quality of her espresso drinks and coffee. She developed a devoted following among the Kaiser staff not only for her drinks, but her upbeat personality.
Yvonne will be remembered for her sunny disposition, ready laugh and quick sense of humor, often self-deprecating. She loved to cook and had a large collection of cookbooks which she loved to peruse. Yvonne was known for fixating on a recipe, tweaking it over and over in small ways until it had been perfected. She also had a love of interior design and loved to entertain.
A graveside service will be held on February 22 at 11am at El Camino Funeral Home in Sorrento Valley. A more informal celebration of Yvonne's life will be held Sunday, February 26 at 1pm. Call 619.301.0835 for the location. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chihuahua Rescue of San Diego, 3711 Mount Abbey Avenue, San Diego, Ca 92111.

I worked for Yvonne off and on for years. I loved her energy and light. I always visited her when I got back to town and will miss her beautiful smile. I am thankful for the friendship we shared.

To Yvonne's family and to her other friends, I'm so sad to learn about the loss of our dear Yvonne. I was a frequent customer at her happy coffee cart, not only because she made the very best lattes but also to spend some time with her sunshine personality. Until she became ill, I didn't realize how private she was. My son Ben and I tried to reach her just after she sold her cart, but her number wasn't working. Ben was very fond of her, especially after she let him "intern" with her for a summer. Her expertise and her influence led him to become quite the coffee snob :) She told me she was proud that he would be using his microbiology education in the food industry. We've been missing our warm, dear, funny friend. Thank you for posting the photo of her.

We were saddened to hear of Yvonne's passing. We had such high hopes she would be able to beat the cancer. Yvonne had such determination in achieving what she sought out to do. We will enjoy the memories of the fun times at Doggie Cafe. I've attached a photo from the 2014 Halloween Doggie Cafe.

Dear Tsiknas family,
I am sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose a loved one, regardless if they have lived a full life. One thing I will say is that "WE" should be happy and allow our God to take his daughter into his care where she will forever be at peace. When you become sad just remember this; the love and laughter she shared with all of you will live in you forever. My sincerest condolences to you and your families. May God help you find peace and strength to get through this trying time. With all due respect.
