Funeral services will be Sunday, February 19th, 2017, at 6:00 p.m., at Collier-Butler Chapel for Mary E. "Shorty" Hooton, 89, of Decatur, formerly Gadsden, who passed away Friday, February 17, 2017. Dr. Richard Trader, Ray Strawbridge, and Tom Barber will officiate. Interment will be at Crestwood Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral & Cremation Services directing.
Shorty was born in Gadsden, AL on March 6th, 1927. She was a lifelong member of 12th Street Baptist Church, and retired from JCPenney Co. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
She is preceded in death by her Husband, M.B. Hooton Jr.; parents, Matt Sheffield and Ruby Sheffield; sister, Margaret Green, sister-in-law, IB Haggard; and her brothers-in-law, Carson Haggard and Leamon Hooton.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy (Dennis) Hare (Decatur, AL); granddaughter, Jaime (Tom) Barber (Hartselle, AL); grandson, Chad (Emily) Hare (Gadsden, AL); great grandchildren, Sydney Barber, Shelby Barber, Cody Barber, David Hare, John Hare, Vivian Hare; brother-in-law, Harold Green; sister-in-law, Joyce Hooton; nieces, Jan (Bill) McGill, Gale (Pete) Sanders; special friends, Barbara Smith, Jamie McGlaughn, and employees of Alabama Teachers Credit Union.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00-6:00 p.m., prior to the service.
