Jack "don't call me grandpa" Hughes married my grandma when I was just a boy. Seeing Jack's private side was such a privilege, a very fun and humble man; composed and self assured, i never heard a negative word roll off his lips. Jack will surely be missed by all.

Jack was one of the leaders who kept weightlifting alive during many periods of diversity. He was extremely knowledgeable, ethical and dependable in his roles as official, competitor and driving force. Thanks to him a standard for the conducting of weightlifting competitions was established both locally and nationally. R.I.P., Jack!

Jack was one of the greatest referees in the history of weightlifting and powerlifting (he was a national champion in weightlifting, and a national masters record holder in powerlifting as well - so he didn't just judge it he did it). His contribution to officiating on a national and international level was immense, both in its scope and length. He will live on in the work and memories of so many to whom he taught the values of a integrity, dedication and competence. I am fortunate to count myself among his pupils.

Chicken Soup for the Soul memories from the Sipe family.
After my mother Dorothy Sipe, had my brother, John Sipe (after 3 girls), Jackie sent a dozen yellow roses to the hospital to mom because they were her favorite roses. Jackie signed the card "who loves you baby, Barrett". Barrett was my dad. Well, dad came to the hospital and said "who are the roses from?" and mom said "your good friend Jack". So didn't dad get a little jealous and send a dozed red roses to mom with the same inscription "who loves you baby, Barrett". So after Dad died in 2009, Jackie and mom talked every Sunday. One Sunday mom told Jackie the old rose story and the next day mom received a dozen yellow roses delivered to her home with the inscription "who loves you, baby Barrett" from Jackie. The next day mom received a dozen red roses with the same inscription "who loves you baby, Barrett". I will never forget this story as long as I live. This is the kind and wonderful friend Jackie was to both of my parents. He knew my dad from jr. high, of which I have another story of "torchy" that was shared to me by Jack Wigley. You see Barrett, the two Jacks and Nick Ross were inseparable as young boys and I will always have fond memories of their stories and great friendships.
"Who loves you baby?" Barbara Sipe
Jackie will forever be in our families soul.

To the man that taught me at a young age how to be a man. The man who taught me to drive, to compete, and to always ask questions. You will live in me forever.
