John Joseph Patrick Case
8/15/1937 – 2/18/2017
On Saturday, February 18, 2017, John Case, age 79, of Johnson City, N.Y., ended his fight with ALS and went to be with the Lord. He was surrounded by his loving family and caregivers. John was the son of James J. Case and Helen A. Enright Case both of Binghamton. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Ann Case, his two sons Timothy (Eldersburg, MD) and Scott (Atlanta, GA), their wives Carolyn and Nicky, as well as six grandchildren, Joseph, James, Taylor, Lucas, Aidan and Sean. John was born in Binghamton on August 15, 1937. He is preceded to Heaven by his parents, his twin brother Joseph, his brother James Case, his two sisters Mary Lehman and Betsy Reynolds and three grandchildren, Thomas, Liam and Finley Case. John grew up on the West Side of Binghamton and attended Central High School. He attended Broome Community College and earned his Associates degree in 1966. During his time at Broome is where he met his wife Kathleen. They were married in St. Patrick's Church, Binghamton, NY on August 24, 1963. Over his career, John worked for GAF/ANSCO, Westinghouse, Florence Electric, New York State Electric and Gas and Jack Sherman Toyota. During his time with NYSEG, John was involved in the Binghamton Speakers Club and won various sales and marketing awards over his career. For over 40 years, John and Kathy lived and raised their children in the Village of Port Dickinson. John was very active in his community serving in several positions for the Village of Port Dickinson such as Trustee and a member of the zoning board. He also served as the local Chapter President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association for several years and was actively involved as a leader in Cub Scout Pack 121 and Boy Scout Troop 126 in the 70's and 80's. John was an active member of his church, singing in the choir and serving as Lay Leader for Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church for many years. John loved music and was a member of the Binghamton Clef Club and The Southerntiersmen who went to the SPEBSQSA nationals in the early 60's. However, John's true passion in life was his love of flying and he would share this love with anyone he came in contact with. He earned his private pilot's license in 1975 and enjoyed flying his Piper Colt and spending time at Chenango Bridge airport whenever he had a chance. He was an active member of the Chenango Bridge Pilot's Association for over 40 years and a member of the QB's.
A viewing will be held for John at Ogden Hillcrest United Methodist Church, 1061 Chenango St, Binghamton, NY on Saturday February 25 from 11 AM to 1:30 PM followed by a funeral service at 2 PM. His body will be laid to rest at Chenango Valley Cemetery, 120 Nowlan Rd Binghamton NY, immediately following. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations made in John's name to the ALS Association - Upstate New York Chapter, 135 Old Cove Road, Suite 213, Liverpool, NY 13090 or Ogden Hillcrest UMC, 1061 Chenango St, Binghamton, NY 13901.

Have many fond memories (from working with JJC at NYSEG) of his friendly personality, quick wit, kind smile and always a twinkle in his eye.
My last chat with John was in the shade of his plane at a county air show as he helped my son climb in and "fly". John even talked me into flying a few times as well several years before.
Wish him unlimited flight time now without any worries!
My most sincere sympathies to Kathy, both sons and their families.
Clear skies and fair winds, John.

John will be missed at Sidney Airport, always positive and asking how others were doing. Always stopped in whether driving a car for Jack Sherman or flying his beloved Piper Colt airplane.
Condolences from all of us at Sidney Airport.
