Clara Isabell (Driever) Cordell was born on September 4, 1920, in Hitchcock, Oklahoma, to Ernest and Mabel Driever. She died on February 22, 2017, at the age of 96 in Oklahoma City.
Clara grew up on a farm near Hitchcock with three brothers and two sisters. She attended high school in Hitchcock, and met her future husband, Kenneth Cordell, in Watonga OK. They married on June 28, 1941, and they lived in Connecticut, on a farm near Fay OK, and in Independence MO, before settling in Oklahoma City. Clara and Kenneth had three daughters: Karen Cordell (Bossier City, LA), Linda Leckman MD (Salt Lake City, UT), and Donna Sternberg (Eden Prairie, MN). She was an active member of University Place Christian Church, teaching Sunday School and participating with the Christian Women's Fellowship. She continued her work with Group 4 of CWF when she and Kenneth later became members of Crown Heights Christian Church where she was a member at the time of her death. She also volunteered at the Oklahoma Food Bank and at her daughters' schools. Clara loved her garden, her roses, reading, the birds and squirrels she fed daily, OKC Thunder and OU Sooners, and especially her friends and family.
Clara is survived by her three daughters, her sister Dorothy Bridgeford, six grandchildren and several great- and great great-grandchildren. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth, in 2009, by her parents, and by one sister and three brothers.
A Memorial Service will be held for Clara on Sunday, February 26, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper, 6600 Broadway Extension, OKC. Burial will be Monday, February 27, at 1:00 PM at the Watonga IOOF Cemetery.
