COLUMBIA - funeral service for Rosalie B. Dreher, 92, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dr. Tony Metze officiating the service, and the burial in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service in the Good Shepherd Room at the church. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Rosalie entered into her heavenly life late Saturday, February 25, 2017. She was born in Newberry to the late Jesse Preston Bodie and Lottie Mae Mize Bodie. After her parents’ early deaths, her grandmother, Victoria Davenport, raised Rosalie from age 9. She attended and graduated Newberry High School and Columbia Commercial College.
When her children were of school age, she began her 34 years of teaching four-year-olds at Virginia Wingard United Methodist Church. During her teaching, she was a member of SACUS and SCACUS. Five days with “her” children weren’t enough – she taught Sunday School for 50 years at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Her love of children kept her young at heart. While she was able, she volunteered at Lowman Home.
Rosalie was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Yancey B. Dreher in 2000 and her only sibling, J. Preston Bodie of Aurora, Colo. She is survived by her daughters, Linda and Nancy Dreher of Columbia; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Linda Dreher of Edisto Beach; granddaughters, Heather Dreher (Kim) of Charleston, Lauren Deaton (Rad), Madison Deaton; great-grandson, Dreher of Hanahan; and a great-granddaughter arriving this summer. Rudy, the man of the house, her faithful four-legged companion, will miss her so much.
Love and thanks to Clara, Rosalie’s new friend.
We love you Mom, Maw Maw, Rosie, Miss Rose and Rosebud.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1715 Bull Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or an animal rescue of one’s choice.
