Ruth Janice Hodges of Mesa AZ, formerly of Boulder, CO passed away February 16th after a short illness. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 4th at Crist Mortuary in Boulder. Burial will be in Mountain View Memorial Park, Boulder, CO.
Ruth "Jan" Hodges was born on Dec. 21, 1931, in Iola, Kansas, the daughter of Carl and Betty (Jones) Carlson. Shortly afterwards, the family moved to Boulder where she remained a lifelong resident until her retirement where she then moved to Mesa, AZ.
She attended Boulder schools and graduated from Boulder High in 1949. She attended the University of Colorado where she majored in journalism. She began her career at Dow Chemical (Rocky Flats) & worked there as an Administrative Secretary for 35 years until she retired.
Jan was an avid Denver Broncos fan from the time they became a franchise. She also loved playing cards, bridge was her specialty! She did the New York Times crossword puzzle faithfully everyday. Her passion was books, she would check out 5 or 6 books at a time & have them all read before the due date and then find 5 more to read. She was also an accomplished pianist.
She is survived by her son Dave Hodges and his wife Paula of Cleburne, TX, her daughter Pam Kallsen and companion Alan Beimer of McCook Lake, SD. Five grandchildren, Amber Pfaff, Woodlands,TX. Lorie Hodges, Cleburne, TX. Travis Kallsen and his wife Tabetha, Elk River, MN. Noah Kallsen and his wife Lisa, Sioux Falls, SD. and Joette Kallsen, Sioux Falls, SD. Six great grandchildren, Kaylee Ross, Reagan and Morgan Pfaff, Aubrey and Caleb Kallsen, Evelyn Kallsen. And a brother Jim Carlson of AZ.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Carl and Betty Carlson, a brother Ron Carlson and granddaughter Glory Hodges.

Jan was a very good friend to me when we worked together at Rocky Flats. We also spent a lot of time together away from RF. We attended a lot of FAC's (Friday Afternoon Clubs), and it wasn't a party without Jan. She will definitely be missed and remembered as a dear friend.
