Naomi Kronfeld Shapiro, 78, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in Lynchburg.
Mrs. Shapiro was the daughter of the late Albert and Doris Goldstein Kronfeld of Fairfield, CT, and was married to the late Rabbi Morris Shapiro. She was a graduate of Adelphi University, the University of Bridgeport, and held a BA in psychology, a MS.Ed, a graduate diploma in gerontology from Lynchburg College, and was a teacher and certified school counselor at the grade and high school grade level.
Mrs. Shapiro traveled widely and extensively both alone and with her late husband of forty years. She shared three pulpits with her husband and took an active role in the activities of the congregations, those of Waterbury, CT from 1965-1970, Johannesburg, South Africa from 1970-1976, and Lynchburg, VA from 1976-1990, when her husband became Rabbi Emmeritus of Agudath Sholom Congregation and the couple continued to make Lynchburg their home.
Mrs. Shapiro is survived by her son, Alex Shapiro and his wife Laura of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother, J.R. Kronfeld of Roxbury, CT and six grandchildren, Rebecca Ensley and husband James, Noah Shapiro and wife Brittani, Micah Shapiro, Joshua Shapiro, Caitlin Ansel, and Alexander Ansel.
A memorial service will be held at 3:15 p.m., Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Agudath Sholom Synagogue with Rabbi Rachel Schmelkin officiating.
Mrs. Shapiro's wish was to be cremated. The interment will be private.
It was Mrs. Shapiro's wish that those wishing to remember her, do so with gifts of charity, benefitting the blind or deaf, or any worthy cause of your choice.
