Jenny Peel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 4, 2017.

BATH - Jenny Griffin Peel, age 78, passed away Friday, March 3, 2017 at her home. She was one of four children of Jasper and Minnie Griffin and was the widow of N. R. Peel who passed away in 1990.
With her tireless energy and belief that sleep was vastly over-rated, Jenny was the community's version of the Energizer Bunny.
A graduate of Bear Grass High School and East Carolina University, Jenny began her career in banking but quickly moved to a long and distinguished career in public education. Known and loved for her dedication to her students, she specialized in teaching business courses and began her teaching career at Jamesville High School followed by many years at Williamston High School where she was also the WHS Golf Team coach.
Until her retirement, Jenny was an involved member of Piney Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was also a member of the WMU and Caddie Peel circle. She eventually retired to live on the river in Bath, NC where she continued to be active in her church life at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
Often seen in her yard from sunrise to sunset, Jenny was known for her love of gardening, beautiful flowers, and many much-appreciated special arrangements that she would lovingly create and bring to any function. With a passion for meticulous preparation, she was also known for her excellent cooking and the extra time and care she dedicated to every dish. When not toiling in her gardens, she loved to gather with friends to play golf and bridge. Jenny was especially proud of her grandchildren and loved traveling to see them and follow their many adventures.
In addition to her parents and husband, Jenny was preceded in death by a sister Eloise Ange and husband Cecil. Left to cherish her memory are her only child Jenny Lynn Peel Maraghy and son-in-law David of Richmond, VA; grandchildren Katie Peel Maraghy and Jack Ryder Maraghy; brothers Comer Griffin and wife Annie of Bath, Joseph Griffin of Williamston; and sister-in-law Myrnie Perry.
The family will receive friends at the fellowship hall of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Williamston from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 5 and other times at the home at 107 Shore Drive in Bath. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Bath at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 6. Flowers will be welcomed or in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Building Bund, St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 106 Craven St, Bath, NC 27808.

Worked with Jenny at Jamesville and Williamston High Schools. Something that came to my mind today was the apple jacks she would bring me when she came to work in the morning at Jamesville High School. She was a good teacher, and always busy with one thing or another. Condolences to her daughter and other family members.

I felt the need to light a candle in memory of a lovely lady whom I am so glad I had the privilege of getting to know.

Had the pleasure of working at Jamesville School during Jenny's first years of teaching. She was always upbeat, smiling, and kind. Many years later I began to manage an exercise place where Jenny enjoyed coming in. Sometimes she would surprise me with a good juicy cheeseburger and something to drink. During this time, Jenny was teaching in Williamston in the business department. In fact my daughter, Karen Coltrain taught at the high school when Jenny was there. Like myself, Karen found Jenny to be a sweet and classy lady. My condolences to daughter, son-in law, grandchildren, brothers, Comer and wife, Joe and wife. RIP Jenny. I know you will be truly missed.
