Margaret (Marky) Read Pontius died on March 2, 2017, in San Antonio, TX. Marky was the daughter of Henry James Read and Margaret Roemer Read both of New Orleans, LA. Marky was born and educated in New Orleans. She graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart and from Sophie Newcomb College where she majored in French. While at Newcomb she joined Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
Marky's interest in the culture and history of New Orleans and in its promotion led her to the position of Director of Catering for the Royal Orleans Hotel, a position that she held for eight (8) years. During this time, she was invited to join the Orleans Club and the Junior League. She remains a Sustainer in the Junior League of San Antonio.
When Marky and her husband moved to San Antonio she became the Director of Marketing for The Four Seasons Hotel where she remained for nine (9) years. Subsequently she served as the corporate Director of Marketing for a five-office real estate company in San Antonio.
In San Antonio, Marky with her husband was a member of the San Antonio Country Club and The Argyle. For many years, she served on the Board of Trustees for the University of the Incarnate Word and was engaged in the fundraising campaign to enlarge the University’s School of Nursing. Marky was devoted to her parish of St. Anthony de Padua and for many years served on the pastoral council and the finance council.
In New Orleans, Marky served on the Board of the Selley Foundation which focuses on enhancing the arts and educational assets of the city. She was also a member of Le Petit Salon.
She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Uwe Rainer Pontius; her sister, Katherine Read Ezell (Mr. Steven D.) of Nashville, TN; a nephew, Read Douglas Ezell of Doha, Qatar; and two nieces, Lauren Ezell Minear (Mr. Robert J.) and Eleanor Baldwin Ezell, all of New York City.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation at 10am with a Funeral Mass at 11am on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.

Dr Pontius your wife was my mentor at Four a seasons. I loved her dearly. Gave her a angel for her Christmas tree one year. I didn't run in her circles. But after years of no contact had a dream about her and called to see if she was ok. She was but said she had fainted in Los Vegas a couple weeks before. Last nite I had a dream about her in a silver dress. She was beautiful. I loved her dearly.
