Margaret Diana McColl, 68, of Georges Creek, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at CAMC Memorial Hospital with family and friends at her side.
Diana as she was known, was born May 21, 1948 in Charleston, the daughter of Margaret Burgess Hardway and the late Norman Nelson Hardway. She graduated from DuPont High School class of 1966. She enjoyed and was active with the Alumni, which she always spoke of with love and pride.
She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” McColl, whom she married July 1988 in Pinch; her children, William “Billy” (Cheryl) Harper of Pinch and Belinda Harper (James) Jones of Phoenix, AZ; 6 loved grandchildren, Trey, Chris, Brandi, Mesha, Diondra and Daija; 2 loved great-grandchildren, Cameron and Isabella; 5 siblings, Brenda Story, Linda Marcum, Nelson Hardway, and Jim and Joe Hardway; 12 nieces and nephews.
She loved her family and was always available to give of herself, never expecting anything in return. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend; but more than that, she was a gift from God, our Angel on earth. Her work here has been done may she rest now.
The funeral service will be held 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Robert Story officiating. The burial will follow the service at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
Family and friends will gather for the visitation from 10:30 a.m. until time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Our deepest condolences to all the Hardway Family for the loss of their beloved Diana. Having grown up next door to this remarkable family, In Malden, many years ago, I recall the true sense of a family bond, helping each other, loving, and sharing whatever they had with family and friends. Diana lived this legacy, too. Now she is at peace in the arms of the Angels. May her loving family be comforted in this and keep happy memories close to their hearts. God bless us all.

I was saddened to learn of Diana's passing from my sister, Valerie. Long ago, we were next door neighbors in Malden - and shared some crazy/good times. I don't know, yet, what it's like to lose a sibling. My heart is with you all. I do know what it's like to lose a child, and I will be holding your mother, Margaret, especially in my heart. Please know I send prayers and hugs of support to the whole family.

To the Hardway Family, we are saddened to hear of Diana's passing, she was such a caring, loving lady, that was fiercely protective of her family and loyal to her former classmates and friends. I know she will be greatly missed by all who loved her. Please accept our deepest sympathies and know that scripture says " to be absent from the body, is to be present with the Lord." God didn't make many ladies like Diana McColl--she truly lived her life helping others. Diana will be missed by many, especially her family and her extended family, the alumni of DuPont High School, Class of '66.
May those of us who knew her, learn from her and follow her example of how to live life helping others.
