Elizabeth Mary "Betty" (Lewis) Copas, 84, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017 in Iowa Park, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Christ the King Catholic Church in Iowa Park with Rev. Khoi Tran officiating. Graveside services will follow at Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park. Rosary will be held at 6 PM on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 in the chapel at the funeral home with visitation following until 9 PM.
Betty was born on January 8, 1933 in Brigus Junction, Newfoundland, as one of 13 children born to Stephen and Johanna (Meeney) Lewis. She married the love of her life, Perry Edward Copas, on May 11, 1957 at Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in St. John's, Newfoundland. Betty was a devout Catholic who taught CCD for over 40 years and was instrumental in establishing Christ the King Church in Iowa Park, Texas. She received many awards from the diocese for her lifelong commitment and dedication to the Catholic faith. As an Air Force wife, she raised her family across the United States and Canada before moving to Iowa Park permanently when Perry was assigned to Sheppard Air Force Base in 1969. Betty loved to dance and socialize, spend time with family and friends, and taught her daughters the gift of altruism. Betty will be remembered as a loyal, kind, and fierce matriarch who taught that selflessness was next to Godliness and family was everything.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Gary and DeWayne Copas; and numerous other family members.
Surviving relatives include her husband of 60 years, Perry Copas of Iowa Park; daughters, Leora Aaron and her husband, Rick of Quanah, Texas; Carolyn Gibbs of Iowa Park; and Brenda Copas of Iowa Park; granddaughters, Krislyn Harkins and husband, Ryan of Hereford, Texas and Kaylie Aaron Alcorta of Quanah; grandsons, Chance Gibbs of Denton, Texas and Shay Aaron of Wheeler, Texas; grandson-in-law, Timothy Alcorta; great grandsons, Kagan Pillars and Slaton Harkins, both of Hereford, and Canyon Alcorta; and numerous other family members and friends.
Memorials are suggested Hospice of Wichita Falls, Alzheimer's Association of Wichita Falls, and to Christ the King Catholic Church in Iowa Park, Texas.

Another beautiful angel was given her wings on 3/11/17. Betty has always been a loving second mother to me since I met her at age seven. She is the most gracious loving woman, who showed and led me to the love god has to offer. I know he holds her hand now and forever, as she is now pain free in Gods warm light. Betty continues to watch over, and love her family with god at her side. May God bless Betty, her loved ones and family. Rest In Peace.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in
the hollow of His hand
