Dr. Geri (Revitte) Brown of Colleyville, TX, age 61, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2017 due to injuries from an automobile accident in Dallas, TX.
Beloved wife of 34 years to Gordon Brown and loving mother to Grant Brown, she is survived by her mother Elizabeth Revitte of Kansas City, sisters Hanna Cusick (Mike) of Kansas City, Marian Revitte of Albuquerque, and brother Frank Revitte (Therese) of Mandeville, LA. She was preceded in death by her father, Francis Revitte.
Geri was born January 30th, 1956 to Francis and Elizabeth Revitte (Sorrell) and raised in Dodge City, KS. After graduating at the top of her class from Dodge City Senior High School, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Washburn University, and did graduate studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland in economics. After working for several years in the Dallas - Fort Worth area, where she met her husband Gordon, Geri became interested in the field of medicine and changed career paths, earning a Medical Degree from University of Texas - Southwestern Medical Center, then completing her residency and three years of postdoctoral training in gastroenterology/hepatology at UT-Southwestern. During her 30 year career in medicine, she worked for UT Southwestern as a faculty member where she taught and mentored GI Fellows and junior faculty, and worked at the Dallas VA Hospital, where she spearheaded efforts to help veterans with hepatitis C. At the time of her death, Geri was Acting Section Chief of Gastroenterology at Dallas VA Hospital, and a professor at UT-Southwestern Medical School.
During her spare time Geri enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Disney World, Scotland, and Spain were some of their recent family experiences.

I have been thinking about Geri today. Wondering what she would say about this pandemic. Knowing she would be worried about her patients. Missing her fearlessness.

I only learned of Dr. Brown's passing today 12/5/2017 when I mentioned her to my primary care physician at the Dallas VA. For those of us whom she guided through our battle with Hepatitis C, it's a tragic loss. My heart goes out to her family. She is sorely missed.

I was shocked and saddened to read of Geri's death in the Washburn alumni book. She and I were at Washburn at the same time and lived in the same dorm. She was always friendly and had a smile for me. I was always impressed with her studious nature and seriousness with which she took her studies and time at Washburn. What a loss to her community, family, and friends. Nancee Stewart

My husband and I are so very sad to hear about the passing of Dr. Brown,,,we were at the VA liver clinic for a follow up today and asked where Dr. Brown was?? We were floored!! Dr. Brown was very passionate about her liver patients. On the last two visits she
came
in and congratulated my husband on completing and being cured of HepC, she said "you were so advanced that I didn't think it would work and I didn't think you would stay on program, but you did and I'm do proud of you"!
Our heart and love goes out to her family, may she RIH, she was truly an angel sent from God!!

Dr Brown you are my hero. You saved my life. How can I repay you for what you gave for me? Your energy and thoughtfullness will always be part of my memory of you. You taught me so much about my liver transplant and what to watch for. You always told me everything and didnt hold back fearing it would effect me in a bad way. God must have really needed such an Angel as you. Please continue to look after all of us that you helped and gave so much to, especially our lives. God Bless you and Rest In Peace. Barb and I love you and will miss you dearly.

I cannot believe that Geri is gone. How can that be? Geri was a few years behind me in training but she taught me many lessons. Geri was direct. If you didn't want to hear a truthful answer, you shouldn't ask her the question. Her reply when I asked her if she liked my new haircut? "It's hair; it will grow back." She was caring. I was on call sick as a dog; she started my IV, gave me two liters and carried the pager while I slept for a few hours. There were times we laughed so hard that we cried and our sides just ached. Geri loved her life at UTSW from the moment she arrived. As a trainee, a young faculty member, a new mother, life was not always easy and it was not always fair. But Geri just kept moving forward, stepping around obstacles and celebrating successes. I am reminded of a famous move line said by Tom Hanks: "There is no crying in baseball." Geri would have told you: "There's no crying in academic medicine." She just kept moving forward to reach her goals.
Grant- You were the light of her life. She surely would have named you as her greatest accomplishment. Ever. Gordon - She would not have achieved all of her successes without your love and support. You were her rock.
I am so sad to know she is gone but so grateful to have known her. You will be in my prayers. Nina

I remember Geri mostly from Sacred Heart Grade School. Though I lost track of Geri's life after high school I always remember her intelligence, humility and kind demeanor. I was not surprised to read of her impressive career and her many loving photos of family life were very telling of the person I remember so many years ago. God bless her and her family.

Geri was one of my first mentors in medicine. I worked in her lab after college and she helped me realize my dream of becoming a physician. She was my role model and friend. She was a dedicated physician and scientist and it was apparent she was also a loving mother. My thoughts and prayers are with her family at this time. She was a wonderful woman and I know she will be greatly missed.
