Roy Preston Pope, Jr., 80, a resident of Broadway passed away on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Sentara-RMH Medical Center.
He was born on April 6, 1936 in Brandywine, WV and was the son of the late Roy Preston and Naomi May Swanger Pope.
Roy was a graduate of Augusta Military Academy and served in the US Army. He had been employed with Reynolds Metals and Branner Printing before retiring in June 2016. He was a member of New Hope Outreach Worship Center in Harrisonburg and enjoyed NASCAR racing, woodworking, refinishing furniture and chair caning.
On May 28, 1960 he married Doreen Harman Pope, who preceded him in death on May 28, 1995. On June 12, 2004 he married Wanda Rodgers Collins Pope, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Mark E. Pope and companion, Penny of Bridgewater, two daughters, Mary Moyers Barb and husband, Nick, of Mathias, WV, and Shelly Biller of Harrisonburg; five grandchildren, Amy Davis, Erica Pope, Lauren, Lexi and Matt Biller; and a great-grandson, Cayden Davis; two step-daughters, Shelia Reedy and husband, Randy, and Patty Collins all of Broadway; five step-grandchildren, Brandon Reedy, Ashley Mundy and husband, Ashlee, Aaron Reedy and wife, Bethany, and Kimberly Williamson and husband, Justin, and Crystal Long; six step-great-grandchildren, Hayden and Kansas Mundy, Bryson and Parker Williamson, Hunter Long and Nevaeh Largent. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
The family will receive friends 5-7:00 pm, Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg. Friends may also call at the residence.
A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm, Monday, March 20, 2017 at Pine Hill Cemetery in Brandywine, WV, with Pastor Mike Reynolds officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Outreach Worship Center, 2226 Rawley Pike, Rockingham, VA 22802, in his memory.
