Lola Herndon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 18, 2017.

Lola M. Herndon, 91, passed away on Friday, Mar 17, 2017.

Memorials: Meals on Wheels, 5740 Airport Freeway. Fort Worth, TX. 76117.

Funeral: 10:00am on Wednesday at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home with burial following in the memorial park. Visitation: 6 to 8pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Lola was born January 14, 1926 in Poth, Texas to Adolph and Hettie Coldewey. She was one of six children, four brothers and one sister. After high school she moved with girlfriends to San Antonio to attend business school and then went to work at Vogue Department Store. Soon after she met the love of her life, Lummie Herndon. They married January 19, 1946, which was five days after she turned 20 because Lummie didn't want to marry a teenager. In December of that year their first son, Wayne was born. Lummie went to work in civil service. Their sons, Gary (1955) and Craig (1957) were born in San Antonio before they moved to Fort Worth in 1957.

Lummie worked in Civil Service. He was transferred to New Boston, Texas where Lola went to work for the New Boston ISD. After Lummie retired they moved to Haltom City. Lola worked for Sears in the collection department until she retired in 1986.

After retiring she delivered Meals on Wheels twice a month for over 25 years. She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Haltom City. She was a loving caring person and always put her family first. Lola is preceded in death by her husband of almost 61 years, her son Craig and three grandsons, Derrick, Christopher, and Jeremy.

Survivors: Sons, Wayne (Mary Anne) and Gary (Dorle); grandchildren, Amy Herndon-Reid (Greg), Amanda Denning (Aaron), Candice Herken (Bryan), Nicole Herndon, Dustin Herndon, and Dakota Herndon; great-grandchildren, Caroline Denning, Carson Denning, Ethan Herken, Lara Herken and numerous family and friends.

So sorry to hear of Lola Mae's passing, she was my Great Aunt, My Grandpa Albert was as I recall her referring to him was her " Big Little Baby Brother" (He was a tall and strongly built man)LOL. Since I was little our family routinely attended the Coldewey reunions in Poth as did she and her branch of the family. I remember we enjoyed our visits so much, and I recall Lola Mae and Grandpa would be "characters, when they got together" LOL
Just know, that once again, there is another family reunion going on, where she is enjoying BBQ and a can of beer or two, with Grandpa, my mom, Grandma and GreatGrandma and the rest of the Coldewey Clan! LOL

Feel comfort in knowing that there are many tears falling from afar for your loss- as well as it is ours , but also know the memories we have of her will forever stay in our hearts.
She now will find true Joy !
We send our blessings and sympathy to all of her loved ones.
