Orba Jean Drewery Bower passed away peacefully on March 17, 2017 at 1:05 PM. She was 81 years old. Born July 17, 1935 in Kelso, Arkansas to the late John Alexander Drewery and Alma Gertrude Tucker, she was one of nine children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John Bower Jr. She was the mother of Kenneth Bower, Scherri Bower Horaist, Cindy Kay Bower Rider, and Jennifer Bower Perkins. She was the grandmother of Mitchell Rumsfeld, Lauren Horaist, Christian Perkins, and Leif Perkins and was affectionately known as Mimi to them. She is also survived by her sons-in-law Bill Horaist and Kevin Rider and her brothers and sisters-in-law whom she loved dearly. She had many friends she considered to be family. Jean moved to California as a young woman where she met a handsome serviceman. They married and moved to his hometown of New Orleans where she has lived ever since. Jean loved to spend time with her friends and with her family. She often took her grandsons to Chuck E Cheese and to Piccadilly Cafeteria for lunch or dinner so she could watch them try for prizes at the Claw Machine. She also liked to go to Lafreniere Park to feed the ducks and had a keen appreciation for nature and animals. She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Jean bowled in a women’s league for many years and she keeps a prized tournament trophy from a league win that she and her husband had together. She rode with the Krewe of Isis during Mardi Gras and also enjoyed time with her friends in the Bon Ami Club. Jean was known by family and friends to have a hair appointment every Friday afternoon in preparation for her big Friday night out at the Treasure Chest. She was always glad at heart and a true friend.

I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. I pray for the Lord to comfort you as he did me when Aunt Irma passed 4 years ago. It's hard to believe she's gone that long. It's sad the family never gets to see each other. She and Aunt Lucille would often comment that families lose track of each other when the older ones are gone.I'm sorry I won't be there tomorrow. The Lord bless and help you in this time. Paula Trigo Allison
