Laura Rundio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 19, 2017.

Laura Adelle (Shedd) Rundio, 97, died on March 18, 2017, in Huntington, IN, surrounded by loved ones. Born in 1919 in Galesburg, MI, she graduated from Galesburg High School in 1937 and Western State Teachers College in Kalamazoo, MI, in June 1941. Mrs. Rundio went on to teach business classes at Oak Hill High School, Converse, IN, while partnering with her husband, Wesley Rundio, who owned and managed Sweetser Lumber Co., Sweetser, IN, and Allied Building Center, Marion, IN.

Her marriage to Wesley Rundio began on August 3, 1940, in Galesburg, MI. Their marriage included Wes's extended wartime service, the birth of four daughters, a business fire and recovery, along with a lifetime of community engagement. Mrs. Rundio's service with the Klothes for Kids organization in Marion included seven years as chairperson; she remarked in a news article about this work that, "I have a tremendous amount of love for children who can't help themselves."

She is preceded in death by her parents LaVern and Mabel Shedd, brothers Russell and Keith Shedd, husband Wesley Rundio, and daughter Susan Rundio. She is survived by her three daughters, Nancy (Jerry) Kirk, Fort Wayne, IN; Catherine (Darrell) Sargent, Angels Camp, CA; and Mary Lou (David) Prickett, Swayzee, IN; three grandchildren, Kelly Collins, Fort Wayne, IN; Robert (Meg Webber) Prickett, Fort Mill, SC; and Christopher (Holly) Prickett, Grand Junction, CO; and seven great-grandchildren: Kirsten, Aaron, Madelyn, Sawyer, Makynna, Greyson, and Braylen. She is also survived by 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

Those that were privileged to know Laura Rundio will remember her as a strong, smart, determined, talented, and compassionate woman. The world is better because she was here. The family would like to express their gratitude to the individuals who took care of her at Heritage of Huntington. Their compassion and love for our mother will never be forgotten.

Memorial visitation is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, March 24, 2017, at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Private family service to follow. Final resting place is IOOF Converse Cemetery, Converse, IN, with her beloved husband and daughter. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Avenue, Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601 or Visiting Nurse Hospice, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46814. Arrangements by Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Winchester Road Chapel.

Pete & I want to send our condolences to you, Marylou and David for the passing of Laura! What a great lady! We have such fond memories of our time in Sweetser; swimming in the pool, the teacher parties, and all of the delicious food she would serve! I still have recipes she gave me ( in her handwriting ) no less! We are thinking of you at this sad time. Prayers to both of you! Pete & Jill

Please know how privileged I feel to have known Laura and Wes over the years. As the obit read, Laura was an independent and very wise woman. She and Wes were hard-working and gave so much of themselves to others and their community. We were all blessed to have had them in our lives. My heartfelt sympathy to your family. Royce Mitchell
