NORWICH – Clifford E. Brautigam, 88, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 18th, 2017.
He was born in Norwich on May 25th, 1928, son of the late Oscar and Ethel (Armstrong) Brautigam.
On Dec. 30th, 1950, Cliff married Jean S. (Marszalek) Brautigam at St. Mary Church in Middletown, CT. She predeceased him.
Cliff was a former Norwich Police Officer and went on to a career with the State of CT D.O.T. and was last employed as a permit investigator retiring in 1989. Following his retirement he worked for several years with the C.L.A. engineers of Norwich. He was a member of the Somerset & St. James Lodge AF & AM. Scottish Rite with M.S.A., and the Nemrod Grotto of Norwich, and was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church of Norwich.
He is survived by a son; Mark J. Brautigam of Provincetown, MA, two daughters; Carol Hogness and her husband Raymond of Milnor, ND, and Jean Fleming of Norwich, brother; Fred Brautigam of Scotland, CT, sister; Nancy Gavitt of Norwich, several nieces and nephews, 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife, Cliff was also predeceased by a brother-in-law; George Gavitt.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 30th at 11am at Christ Episcopal Church, 78 Washington St., Norwich, CT. Burial is private at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.

Cliff was a very fine gentleman. I first met him when I was in the Masonic order. He worked with my brother at DOT.
I always enjoyed seeing him around town, and he has left many good memories for me, as he has for all of you!! He is now resting in peace that his strong faith provided him.
