Mary Hill Riggs was born December 01, 1931 in Reinhardt (now the Casa Linda area), Dallas County, Texas to Fayleen Camel (Ballock) and Everett L. Hill. Her father was one of the 12 founders and one of two elders of the Church of Christ of Mesquite in the 1940s. Mary was a faithful member of this Church until 2004 when she moved and joined the Church of Christ in Katy. She will be remembered fondly by both church families. Her parents and all three siblings, Everett Jr., Oletha Tanner, and B. J. Hill, predeceased her. Mary married on December 17, 1951, to Shelby E. Riggs, Jr. He, too, preceded her in death. They were married for 52 years. Mary retired from Texas Power & Light in Mesquite on August 1, 1987 after 25 years of employment.
Mary went to be with her heavenly father on March 17, 2017. Her wonderful laugh and her cheery personality will be sorely missed. She is survived by her daughter, Linda and her husband David Shaddix, and their daughter, Sarah and her husband Craig Stevens, Jr. Her Riggs in-laws loved Mary dearly, she will be missed by all: Bud and Betty Riggs and family, Mary Ann Hearon (widow of Tom E.) and family, Julia Riggs, Carol and Durward Anderson, Dick & Juanita Riggs and family, Tom & Barbara Riggs and family, and Barbara J. Riggs (widow of Jerry). Numerous nieces, nephews and extended families will miss Aunt Mary's contagious smile.
Services will be Friday, March 24, 2017, at Grove Hill beginning at 10 am with family visitation, followed at 11 am for Service in the Chapel, followed immediately with a graveside prayer and return to the event center for further visiting. Stephen A. Bailey, who was Mary's minister in Mesquite, but is now with the Brown Street Church of Christ in Waxahachie, will officiate.
A second memorial celebrating Mary's life will be held in Katy for family and friends there. It is scheduled for Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 2 pm at the Church of Christ in Katy on East 5th Street, Katy, Texas. Minister John Baker will officiate.
