Dolores "Dee" Mae Shikles, the daughter of John and Opal Shikles was born January 3, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri. She lived there through her childhood and teens. In 1953, she moved to Pasadena, California, where she attended Pasadena City College. She was a member of the Pasadena Presbyterian Church and belonged to the writers' Club. She began writing poetry, which reflected her sense of humor and deep religious conviction. Dee moved to Boulder in 1982. She was a volunteer guide at the Boulder Historical Museum and for the Red Cross. She sang in the First Presbyterian Church choir and was a Sunday school teacher for preschoolers. She loved history and belonged to the Civil War club. She continued writing poetry, but began writing short children's stories. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Gary, brother in law, John Gary and nephew, Charles Gary. Arrangements under the direction of Crist Mortuary, Boulder, CO.
