BLOOMINGTON – L. A. "Ham" Leipold, 92, of Bloomington, passed away Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at Westminister Village, Bloomington.
Ham was born October 8, 1924, in New Athens, IL, the son of George John and Katherine Emily Leipold. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Sharon Leipold of McLean; a sister, Ruth Rash of LeRoy; a grand-son, Greg (Sheila) Leipold of Bloomington; and a grand-daughter, Kimberly Leipold of Minneapolis, MN; three great-grandchildren, Alison, Clayton, and Whitney Leipold. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; Eula; a son, Larry; and numerous brothers and sisters.
Ham served in the United States Air Force during WWII as an airplane mechanic. Later in life, he worked at General Electric for 34 ½ years. He was known throughout the community for fixing bicycles and giving them to children throughout the town. He loved fishing, skating, and tennis. He was a member of the Bloomington American Legion.
A private graveside service will be at East Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bloomington American Legion. Online condolences may be shared with the family at eastlawn-bloomington.com

Loren was a good man. I am sad to learn of his death. I can still remember his voice and his gentle, quiet nature. What an honor to have known a great patriot who served our country in WWII.
