Jean Morse Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 27, 2017.

Jean Clark Morse, age 89, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Kings Grant after a lengthy illness. Jean was born June 2, 1927, in Fieldale, to the late William N. and Ennis Hinson Clark.

She was very active in First Baptist Church of Martinsville. She loved to play bridge and golf. She was a true caregiver and someone who cared for others more than she cared for herself.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Morse, Sr.; one son, Robert S. Morse, Jr. and a son-in-law, Harry Byrd.

She is survived by a daughter, Ellen Byrd of Penhook; brothers, Roger (Janet) Clark of Pinehurst, N.C. and Douglas (Margaret) Clark of Cape Cod, MA.; niece Amy Salley; nephews, Roger Clark, Jr., Scott Clark and Todd Clark; several great nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at King's Grant Victory Chapel with Chaplain Paul Johnson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jeans' memory to King's Grant Fellowship Fund or Mountain Valley Hospice.

I'll always be so grateful to Jean for being there for my Mom and for their terrific friendship, it was nice seeing the picture of them together in the photo gallery. Jean sure could make you laugh and tell a good story. She was always interested in us 'kids' and how we were all doing.
My heartfelt condolences to Ellen and her family.

All she would have to say is my name on the other end of the phone and I knew it was Miss Jean. She will always have a special place in my heart. Thinking of you Ellen.

I know Jean is with Mama & Mary Ann playing bridge. I loved her sense of humor, her red hair, her life-long friendships & the way she always said what needed to be said. When I was little playing "dress-up," my favorite gown was the off the shoulder lavender bridesmaid dress my mother wore in Jean & Bobby's wedding. Even though we lived far away for a while, we always visited the Morse's. I have pictures of Bobby & me as toddlers in Grandma Elsie's front yard & remember admiring your cute braids when you were little, Ellen. Jean loved taking care of people...nursing was a good fit. Mostly she was a caring friend. I will miss her.
