Jennie Lou Gibbs, formerly of San Angelo, TX, passed away on March 26, 2017 in Round Rock, TX, at the age of 89. She was born on June 12, 1927, in Ackerly, TX to parents, Ralph and Dura Guthrie. Jennie was valedictorian of her graduating class at Sundown High School, Sundown, TX and attended Baylor University for one year prior to marrying Marion R. Gibbs on December 18, 1946, in First Baptist Church, Sundown, TX. They were married for 70 years.
She was a devout Christian, devoted wife, wonderful mother and grandmother, dedicated Sunday School teacher, church worker and faithful friend to many. To know Jennie was to love her. She was gracious and kind to all. Jennie is survived by her husband, Marion Gibbs of Austin, TX and son, Russ Gibbs and wife, Vicki of Kingwood, TX; nephew, Allen Guthrie and wife, Rita of Round Rock, TX; niece, Janice Neithercutt of Davis, CA; niece, Kendra Williams Harris of Mineola, TX; nephew, Sam Williams of Grapevine, TX; niece, Wanda Kirby of Moab, UT; niece, Lynda Sorensen of Moab, UT; and other extended family.
Jennie was preceded in death by her sister Nettie Grant in 2000, bother R.A. Guthrie Jr. in 2010, grandson Ryan Gibbs in 2012, niece Janell Moncrief in 2013, and niece Kelley Williams in 1984. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of First Baptist Church, San Angelo, TX. A private burial service led by her son, Dr. Russell Gibbs will be held at the graveside in Levelland, TX. Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville TX and George Price Funeral Home in Levelland, TX are in charge of the arrangements.
