James Clyde Hawkins, 82, of East Ridge went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 29, 2017. He was born to the late James Gordon and Edna Jo Crowe Hawkins. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Clyde was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a former member of the East Ridge Baptist Church. His smile and sense of humor were a delight to all who knew him.
He was also preceded in death by his daughter Cynthia Diane Hawkins, sisters Virginia Jo Gould, June Till, and Dorothy Jean Zerkle.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Joni Hawkins, son James Doug (Michelle) Hawkins of Chattanooga, grandchildren James Craig (Erin) Hawkins and Daniel Ryan Hawkins.
Graveside services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Pastor Bennie Mills officiating. Family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 1:30 pm Saturday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Hospice of Chattanooga for their wonderful care and concern.

Clyde was a wonderful father in law. I would tell him he was my favorite father in law and he would say that I was his favorite daughter in law. You always knew where you stood with him. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He loved his family and he will be greatly missed. But we will get to see him again one day! We love you papasan.
