Mary Kate Grizzle, age 86, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Townsend Park Health & Rehab.
Mrs. Grizzle was born on April 17, 1930 in Bartow County, the daughter of the late Rev. James Howard Cordell and Minnie Wilson Cordell.
Mrs. Grizzle was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a proud and active member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church from August 26, 1956 until the time of her illness. Other than hearing the Gospel, she really enjoyed the ladies Sunday School Class, Women's Missionary Union and most of all, singing in the church choir. She was employed by EZ Mills, Union Carbide and Bischoff & Cline. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She also was an avid shopper and made weekly trips to Belk.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of thirty-five years, Ernest "Jack" Grizzle; her daughter Gail's father, Loyd Shinall; two sisters, Cassie Genell Smith and Lillie Bell Atkinson; four brothers, Charles, Howard "Junior", Ernest and Harold Clinton Cordell; brothers-in-laws, J.D. Atkinson, George Smith and Charlie Rainey.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Stanley Warren of Cartersville, GA; step-son, Russell (Janice) Grizzle of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Tyler (Kim)Warren of Cartersville, GA, Meredith (Michael) Jetton of New York, NY, Gary (Tiffany) Grizzle of Roswell, GA; great-grandchildren, Chloe Warren and Lilly Allen of Cartersville, GA, Jack Grizzle of Roswell, GA and Russ Jetton of NY; brothers and sisters, Larry (Linda) Cordell, Evelyn (Ronald) Garland, Rovene(Charles) Cordell, Lois Rainey, Marvin (Reba) Cordell, Velva Chandler, Patricia Harrison; a host of nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 11th of April, 2017 in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Laymen Larry Williams, Curtis Hart and son-in-law, Stanley Warren officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Don Startup, Teri Jones, Barry Jones and her brother, Larry Cordell. Interment will immediately follow in Sunset Memory Gardens officiated by Larry Cordell.
Serving as pallbearers are Ernie Padgett, Steve Kennedy, Steve Beck, Steve Warren, Gene Lee, Brett Rampley, Tony Tidwell and Gary Grizzle.
Friends are cordially invited to a gathering with the family from six o'clock in the evening until eight on Monday, the 10th of April, 2017 at Owen Funeral Home.
