G. Norman Bayly, 90, of Keene, passed away on Monday April 17th, after a period of failing health.
He was born in Hornell, NY on April 22, 1926, son of Benjamin F. Bayly and Alberta (Heers) Bayly. He attended school in Hornell, graduating early from Hornell High School, (where he played tuba in the High School marching band) in order to enlist in the U.S. Army during World War II. He served in the 1st Armored Division, driving tank in Italy during the war. He and his family were very proud of his military service.
After his discharge, he graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. He went on to a career in insurance, working for National Grange Mutual for nearly 40 years, first in New York State, later in Illinois, and finally in the home office in Keene, where he worked as an assistant Vice President of claims, retiring in 1991.
During his younger years, Norm enjoyed canoeing, fishing and hunting; and he always enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition, he was a talented cartoonist. Over the years he often entertained his family, friends, and co-workers with his humorous depictions of life. His wit and talent will be missed by all who knew him.
Norm is survived by his daughters, Patricia Cooke and husband Harold of Westmoreland, and Linda Bayly of Brewster, Mass., his stepson Richard Patterson of Shrewsbury, Mass., his grandchildren Sarah Cooke of Westmoreland, Addia and Forrest Bayly of Concord, Chloe Fellman of Dover, and Samuel and Jeremy Patterson of Shrewsbury; and great grandchildren Ethan Cooke of Westmoreland, and Max Fellman of Dover. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, including daughter-in-law Kaari Ward-Bayly of Concord, and sister and brother-in-law Cynthia and Smiley Georgina of Keene, to whom he was particularly close. In addition, he is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Norman was predeceased by his parents, his wives Virginia (Simms) Bayly and Barbara (Doody) Bayly, his son, Steven Bayly, and his siblings, Carlotta Carson and Benjamin F. Bayly Jr.
In accordance with Norman's wishes, there will be no services or calling hours at this time. A family interment will follow at a later date. I just found out the Norm passed on, I worked with him for a lots of year in HO Claims. He was a great man, very kind and so talented with his drawings. I still have a manual from years ago that I wrote and they have his drawings in the different sections. He was a wonderful man. I am sorry for your loss -
