Phyllis Bodwell Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 19, 2017.

Phyllis Buxton Bodwell (98) of Concord, NH passed away peacefully in the presence of family members on Sunday April 15 2017. She was born in Bethel VT and after high school, attended Keene State Teachers College and joined the faculty at Milford (NH) Area High School (MAHS). Even though she was working and raising a family, she attended night school, obtained a Masters in library science and was a school librarian for most of her many decades at Milford.
After retirement from the MAHS, Phyllis and her husband Ralph sold their home and extensively traveled in their RV throughout all of the united states and visited all 50 states. A special trip to Australia and New Zealand and was the source of many great memories and stories. Once the weather started to chill in the concord area they would take a serpentine path south ending up in a RV park in Harlingen TX for the winter months. Joined by thousands of likeminded travelers, it provided a critical mass to enable lots of activities to do and enjoy. No matter where she traveled Phyllis made friends many of which ended up being lifelong.
She was an outstanding role model not only for her children but her children's children and their children. Phyllis was: Strong, smart and independent (at 98 still had her own second floor apartment); a gifted teacher and craftsperson whom freely gave of herself (Commendation from the Harlingen school system for 10yrs of volunteering to help tutor disadvantaged students in English); and with the nicest smile and just a fantastic sense of humor was often called "such a sweetie". One of her greatest pleasures was the family gatherings to which she always had a place of honor. She would talk often and with great fondness about the gatherings and even at 98 loved playing card and board games into the wee hours. Phyllis was so full of life…she will be greatly missed.
Phyllis was predeceased by her husband of 57 years Ralph Bodwell. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Reid of Bethel CT, her son Jack Bodwell of Canaan NH, four grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Bennett Funeral Home 209 North Main St Concord NH 03301 April 26 from 11 to 1 followed by burial at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.
In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to David's House, 461 Mt. Support Road
Lebanon, NH 03766. https://www.davids-house.org. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord.
