Thelma Mae “Sissy” Thomas, 85, of Scottsville passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017.
Born in Albemarle County on January 31, 1932 she was a daughter of the late Grover and Mary Staton Turner. In addition to her parents Thelma was predeceased by her husband Russell Thomas, Sr.; her sisters, Pat Shifflett and Bertha Lamb; her brothers, James Turner, Grover Turner, Jr., and Lawrence Turner; and son-in-law, Douglas Maitland.
Left to cherish Thelma’s memory include her daughters, Delores Collier and her husband Charles, Janet Seal and her husband Paul, JoAnn Maitland, Mary Durkee, and Sharon Sayers and her husband Todd; her sons, Russell Thomas, Jr., and his wife Carol, Richard Wayne Thomas and his wife Mary Ann, and Jerry Thomas and his wife Louise; and, 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Aaron Pritchett and his family for their friendship, love, and care of Thelma.
Thelma was strong in her faith and had a deep personal relationship with her God.
A funeral service will be conducted 1:00pm Monday, April 24, 2017 at the Teague Chapel with Pastor Harlan C. Sykes officiating. Interment will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the funeral home.

She was a wonderful and loving woman. She brought joy into the lives of her children and all who knew her. She will be greatly missed, but she will be a guardian angel in heaven keeping watch over all her loved ones. My deepest condolences to her family.
