Daniel Rene Verbeke, 83, of Peoria passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 2:23 a.m. at Shepherd's Way at Proctor Place.
He was born Dec. 27, 1933, in Peoria to Cyriel and Adeline (DeCokere) Verbeke. He married Joan Nunn on April 8, 1961, in Ponsford, Minn. She survives along with their six children: Danielle (Craig) Ayres, Rita (David) Miller, Daniel Jr (Cheryl), Timothy (Barbara), Jeffrey (Amy) and Jennifer; grandfather to Alex Ayres, Tiffanie Verbeke, Madeline Verbeke, Gabrielle Verbeke, Alexandra Verbeke and Geneva Miller. Also surviving are two sisters, Pat Johnson and Mary (Ben) Peters, plus many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graduate of Woodruff High School and a veteran of the Air Force, Dan worked as a builder until retirement.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Bartonville, Timberlake Club in Peoria, the Hanna City American Legion and St. Jude Knights of Columbus. He was the builder of the original St. Anthony's facilities and so proud of the church community.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be Sunday, April 30, 2017, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at St. Anthony's in Bartonville. Funeral mass will be Monday, May 1, 2017, 10 a.m., with visitation 30 minutes prior to service all at the church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Parkinson's Disease Association Midwest, St. Anthony's Catholic Church or Logan-Trivoli Fire Department. A special thanks to Dr. Kouri and the wonderful staff at Proctor Place for giving him loving care for the past 4 1/2 years.
