Nathaniel Ewing Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 24, 2017.

Nathaniel William "Nathan" Ewing, 20, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park, Texas with Pastor Tim Franks officiating. Graveside services will follow at the Highland Cemetery Pavilion under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, April 28, 2017 in the chapel at Dutton Funeral Home.
Nathan was born April 24, 1997 in Wichita Falls, Texas. In 20 years he accomplished much more than most do in a lifetime. He graduated with honors from Iowa Park High School in 2015 and was a Sophomore at Oklahoma University. Family was always his priority, being the best big brother to his siblings, Natalie and Eli, and there was no greater bond than the bond he shared with his mother, Kelly. There wasn't a job he wouldn't tackle and he accomplished so many life goals, including owning a Ford Mustang. Nathan started flying at six months of age and was pursuing his pilot's license. He was a strong Christian who was always smiling and was so humble and kind.
Surviving relatives include his parents, Kelly and Dub Ewing; sister, Natalie Ewing; and brother Elijah Ewing, all of Iowa Park, Texas; grandparents, Larry and Karen Helwig of Sandstone, Minnesota; Edward and Donna Ewing of Iowa Park; Jim and Jean Spikes of Burkburnett, Texas; and Brenda Simmons of Gainesville, Texas; great grandmother, Kay Clayton of Iowa Park; his special aunts and uncles, Laura and David Fleet; Kurt and Jade Helwig; Trey and KK Lipe; and Sasha Christian; half siblings, Dillon and Ashlyn Spikes of Burleson, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorials may be made to the Nathan Ewing Memorial Fund at www.nathanewingmemorialfund.com.

How is it that some people are able to grasp and live the fullness of life in two decades and others are still struggling to find what is truly important after six or seven or eight? He had the gift of Godly parenting and all the love he needed and I think maybe that's the answer.

Kelly & Family,
I am so sorry about Nathan. I didn't really know him but I do remember him. One year for the Gustafson family reunion at Aunt Karen and Uncle Larry's place in Sandstone I brought my great niece Taylor who is the same age. They must have been around 3 years old. My Mom and stepdad had their RV there and were spending the night so Taylor and I stayed late. Nathan and Taylor danced with each other by the campfire and played together. They were so cute. I know his Grandma and Grandpa were very proud of him by what I heard from Aunt Karen and things she told my Mom. My heart goes out to you at this very difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers.God gained an angel. May the Lord give you strength in the days to come. May you find some comfort in your many memories of him.

I had the pleasure to meet Nathan a few years back at Oscar park with his brother. We talked for sometime and he touched my family with his character. I will not forget the talk that we first shared and I feel blessed to have been able to spend time with him.

Although I am heartbroken for him and his loved ones, I know this is a journey we all take and although this is so very hard, I take comfort in knowing that he is spreading his beauty in a new place now. A beauty that will last for eternity. We love you Nathan!
