Frank was born to Henry Xavier Byrne and Catherine Steen in Baltimore, MD. He studied under the excellent tutelage of Father Delaney, his Physics and Astronomy professor. He learned a mean game of chess from a chess champion near his home on Woodford Rd, in Baltimore, and continued to share his love of this competitive game with any who would play. He married and did his graduate work in Physics and Astronomy while starting his career as a Physics and Astronomy professor at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. He was a professor and mentor to college cadets, often sharing his favorite poem, "Don't You Quit". There, all 8 children were born as he watched the field of college education radically change in the meantime. He instilled a love of nature in his family. With a large station wagon and tent, he opened their worlds, following the path Father Delaney had made with him and young singers decades earlier - to California, enjoying the amazing natural wonders of the US. He was swept upwards towards God with the coming of the Charismatic Renewal that visited Charleston, S.C. With his newly found love of God, he used his talents to help the local Catholic Church come out of debt, and led the elementary school board, supporting his children's education. With the hope of a better college education for his children than what his professor's salary could afford, he eventually moved the family to California and encouraged their pursuit of the UC and CA State University systems. Dad moved to Genoa, NV for his retirement. Sadly, some of his children were blocked from relating with him at various points. Yet, in his last 5 months, he was free to follow his heart, and reconnected with several of his children. His youngest son stayed with him, and Dad and son were a help to one another in a time of need. His last communion was taken at the hospital. He will be missed…
