Albert Martinelli Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 27, 2017.

Albert was born in Yolo County to John and Tina Pardini Matinelli. He grew up in Clarksburg where he graduated from Clarksburg High School. He attended UC Davis for a short time. He went into the farming business at the early age of 17, after his father passed away. Albert and his brother John created Martinelli Brothers and started growing asparagus; tomatoes for Campbell Soup and Contadina; sugar beets for Spreckles Sugar; alfalfa and other grains in Davis and Clarksburg. He served as President of the board of Reclamation District 765. Martinelli Brothers won the grower of the year distinction by Campbell Soup on a number of years. He was truly an unforgettable person in the Delta farming community and will be greatly missed.
Albert was preceded in death by his wife Carmela, his oldest son Michael, and Albert's younger brother John. John is survived by his daughter Karen (David Chestnut) and their daughter Holly.
Surviving Albert are his youngest son Leonard (JoAnn) Martinelli; Leonard's children, daughter Michelle (Brett) Ylizaliturri and their children Vincent, Sage and Taylor; Leonard's daughter Elisa Baumgarte and her children Aiden and Corey; and Leonard's son, Anthony.
Visitation will be held at Nicoletti, Culjis & Herberger, 5401 Folsom Blvd., Sacramento, CA on Friday, May 12, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A short recitation of the rosary will be said at 6:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will take place in the St. Joseph Chapel at St. Mary's Cemetery, 6700 21st Ave., Sacramento, CA on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Assoc. in memory of Carmela Martinelli.

Kenji Taguma

My deepest condolences to the Martinelli family on their loss, on behalf of the Taguma family of West Sacramento...

Rest in Peace, Albert Martinelli, who I used to see now and then when I worked at the Thrifty's in West Sacramento in the late 1980s-early 1990s.

The Martinellis helped to shelter the Taguma clan right out of their wartime incarceration in an American concentration camp, as they were forcibly removed from Broderick, Yolo County during the War and sent to Colorado to live behind barbed wire. My father Noboru, the eldest son of the Taguma family, helped the Martinelli brothers grow asparagus after the war, becoming foreman. For years, the house that the Tagumas all lived in, furnished by the Martinellis, was alongside the levee headed to Clarksburg in the Yolo County countryside. I had wanted to take a photo of it in recent years, but then it disappeared.

Needless to say, the Martinelli family were critically important to the entire Taguma clan, as my grandparents, aunts, uncles and father -- nine altogether -- regrouped after coming out of an American concentration camp during the War. They came back from Colorado with pretty much nothing, but the Martinellis allowed them the means to get back on their feet as they became farmers in their own right, for which we are eternally grateful.

Thank you, Albert and John.

If there ever was a one of a kind, my Grandpa Fit that phrase perfectly, never boring that's for sure, he was loving, has a really generous side to him, he was funny and always treated me the same through the up's and downs of life. I will never forget him, loved him so much, RIP Grandpa

Albert will be truly missed. One of a kind is an overused expression, but Albert is one of a kind; a friend, mentor and a member of my family for over 30 years. RIP my old friend. I miss you.
